How Stage 1 works, how our mocks and question bank are built, and what you can and can’t claim back. Can’t find your answer? Get in touch.
What does Stage 1 of GP training selection involve?
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria sit the Situational Judgement Test (SJT) and the Clinical Problem-Solving Test (CPST) online, in one invigilated sitting of about three hours, with the CPST straight after the SJT and an optional break between them. According to the ICGP 2026 blueprint, the SJT has 45 scenarios in 94 minutes (35 are scored; 10 are being piloted), and the CPST has 50 single-best-answer questions in 60 minutes. Always check the ICGP’s current Guide to Applicants for the latest details.
Is GPTestPro affiliated with the ICGP?
No. We are independent. Our questions follow the published format but are our own, not official ICGP items.
How is the SJT scored on GPTestPro?
The ICGP does not publish its exact SJT scoring. We use near-miss partial credit: in ranking questions each response earns up to 4 marks depending on how close it is to its ideal position (maximum 20); in “choose three” questions each appropriate choice earns 4 marks (maximum 12). Treat SJT percentages as an estimate.
How do the mock exams work?
Each mock runs like the real sitting: SJT first, then an optional break, then the CPST. The timer runs on our server and keeps going if you close the page, so plan to sit each mock in one go. You can review every question with explanations once you submit.
What’s the difference between the question bank and the mock pack?
The question bank is for learning: practise by topic in tutor mode (instant explanations) or timed mode. The mock pack gives you full-length timed papers that are separate from the bank, so you won’t have seen the questions before.
Can I claim the cost under TSS or CCERS?
Don’t count on it. CCERS only refunds exams on its approved list, after you pass. The TSS covers question banks and mock exams for TSS- and CCERS-eligible exams, but the current policy doesn’t list SJT or CPST preparation, and it excludes interview prep courses and training scheme application fees. Your Medical Manpower Department decides on each claim, so ask them first. Read our funding guide.
Does my pass renew automatically?
No. Every plan is a one-off payment for a fixed period. If you buy again while a pass is active, the new period is added on to the end.
Can I share my account?
No. Accounts are for one person, and signing in on a new device signs you out elsewhere.
I think a question is wrong. What should I do?
Use “Report a problem with this question” under the explanation. Reports go to our clinical review queue, and corrected questions are re-reviewed before going live again.
